Artwork at the New Americans Museum in San Diego by Shinpei Takeda inspired by the arrival poetry of 113 poets, mine included. Last night was the exhibit opening featuring a poetry reading by a dozen of the poets in attendance, myself included. Cool!

Last night I featured at Tia Chuchas in Sylmar again, this time as one of The Inner Four. I performed five spoken word classics (I Got The American Right, Interchangeable, Before We Died, Homo Superior, and Mr. Hide) from my compilation Spoke In Word, and three one-day-old poems (A pair of lips for the apocalypse, Transient, and Essentials).

Just got word that one of my poems (Ventura Highway) is going to be published in the Tia Chucha Press anthology “Coiled Serpent: Poets Arising from the Cultural Quakes & Shifts in Los Angeles.” Woo hoo!

Last night I hosted the publication reading in the Donald Wright Auditorium inside the Pasadena Central Library for the anthology of Southern California Poets I published called Spectrum. We had 50 readers from the book perform their poetry!

Picked up a copy of this gorgeous new anthology tonight at the publication reading inside Half Off Books in Whittier. I've got three classic poems in it (Kitty Hawk California, Fourth Lesson, and The Artist) about my daughter, and had the chance to read all of them as a featured poet.

Last night I was a featured poet at a celebration of Cat Stevens held at the Ruskin Theatre in Santa Monica. I performed my poems "Techman" (each stanza working as a music trivia question, each audience member answering correctly received a copy of my latest chapbook) and "Novim's Nightmare Whistlestar" (using 36 Cat Stevens song titles to create a poem). They loved both!

I was featured last Sunday between 2:30 and 3pm along with my three of my co-horts (Marvin Dorsey, Carl Stilwell, and Mary Torregrossa). We call our little grouping The Inner Four. I performed four poems from my new chapbook, Inside My Jambo Head: Love, Where the Road Ends, Blue Bonnets, and Showing A DVD on the Galapagos to a Ninth Grade Class.

Workshop!

Made my 16th annual trek to Clark Magnet High School in Glendale on Friday morning to share the joy of making and performing poetry with Mrs. Guarino's Creative Writing class. I put together a six poem sampler (pictured above) featuring my poems Maya's Face, Final Exam Senryu, Lunch Murder, Space For Poetry, Choose, and Google Don Name Images. They had fun learning the ideas behind the creation of each poem and proceeded to emulate the method of their choice. Great results. Wonderful buncha kids!
